Leading industrial companies form joint company to support Swedish power generation and grid capacity

Today is the announcement of a new company, Industrikraft, established to support the expansion of the Swedish electricity supply. The initiative is initially a collaboration with Alfa Laval, Boliden, SKF, Stora Enso and Volvo Group as equal shareholders. A number of industrial companies, with which Industrikraft is already in dialog are expected to join as shareholders in a second stage.

The purpose of Industrikraft is to create a platform for Swedish industry to constructively contribute with perspectives and expertise on energy issues in dialog with energy companies and the state. The dialog will address risk-sharing models and financing. Solutions required to enable necessary investments need to be clarified in a near future.

– The expansion of the Swedish electricity system is the largest infrastructure investment in Sweden in over a century. For the investment to be implemented, the energy companies, together with the state and industry, will need to clarify the conditions. Swedish industry is ready to participate in this process in the coming years, says Tom Erixon, Chairman of the newly formed company Industrikraft and CEO of Alfa Laval.

The companies behind Industrikraft are deeply involved in the industrial transition required for Sweden to achieve its climate goals. Electrification is a crucial component in that process, and access to electricity on competitive levels, will be a crucial issue for the competitiveness of Swedish industry.

Industrikraft and its founders believe that all fossil-free energy sources are needed to ensure competitive electricity prices and reduce carbon emissions. Stable base load power such as nuclear power will continue to be necessary to secure energy supply, but also large-scale expansion of wind and solar power together with significant energy efficiency improvements.

In addition to Chairman Tom Erixon, the Board of Industrikraft will consist of Håkan Buskhe,  Martin Lundstedt, Mikael Staffas and Carl-Henric Svanberg.
